Hip parents rejoice. Jared Kushner knows you're out there, and so via his Observer Media Group he gives you a new magazine called "Observer Playground". Edited by Lyss Stern, founder of Divalysscious Moms, the mag will be available inside the overpriced Observer newspaper and features Actress Mary-Louise Parker on it's first cover. In a press release earlier today, the magazine's purpose was explained:
Observer Playground is aimed at parents interested in keeping up with New York’s rich cultural scene while juggling the needs of a busy family. It will give advice to readers on how best to navigate New York City with children and will provide pre-eminent news in fashion, nutrition, education, entertainment and fitness, with articles focused on the top-rated children’s classes, helpful resources, “must-have” items, profiles on New York City power parents, recipes and more.
Is it just us or is the Observer using the word "Hip" as code word for "Wealthy"? And seriously is there any other way to navigate the streets of New York City other than walking in them to avoid the stream of tourists commanding the sidewalks? Inside the magazine cover girl Mary-Louise Parker sets an example for all "Hip" moms and strips down to her undies with the words "Yummy Mummy" on her bottom. The actress speaks about the trials of being a working mom which is probably pretty much the same like any other working mom with a demanding job. Editor in Chief Lyss Stern in an effort to convince herself that the mag has real purpose says that “New York City families have needed a magazine like this for years.” Seriously Lyss did they tell you that? Its a wonder how they survive all these years without a magazine like this? Its amazing. Jared Kusher seems to be all over the place with his business strategy. The Observer continues to lose money but Kushner presses on with print. He is said to be looking at ways to generate revenue via the web but we see no real blueprint for a web strategy. Kushner seems to like the excitement of a new launch until it fades and he gets bored. Never the less, good luck with it, and we will be reading.
