Verizon is in advanced discussions to acquire mobile video startup Vessel, according to people familiar with the talks. Vessel is best known as the company founded by former Hulu CEO Jason Kilar. Vessel launched in March 2015, and wanted to become a hub for YouTube stars to reach super-fans. But the company was unable to sign many of YouTube’s biggest stars, who stayed on with Google’s video site, and the company has struggled to find traction with users.

DISNEY AND HEARST'S A&E IS OPENING A BROOKLYN BASED DIGITAL AGENCY
A&E Networks has signed a deal to become one of the first major television networks to open an office in Brooklyn. The media company, which owns six brands including Lifetime and the History channel, has signed a lease at 1000 Dean Street in Crown Heights. The space will be used for its new digital-content agency, 45th & Dean.

SPIN MEDIA STARTS UNLOADING WEBSITES, SELLS IDOLATOR,BUZZNET AND PURE VOLUME
Blog network SpinMedia has sold Idolator, Buzznet and PureVolume to Hive Media, a company launched just last year that has offices in San Diego, Los Angeles, New York and Tel Aviv and advertises itself as an online media organization. The sale was completed at the end of August, according to Hive Media CEO Markus Levin.
