Profit at Huffington Post Never Matched Its Outsized Reputation, And its Founder's Record Never Lived Up to Her Reputation

Is a sale or downsizing of Huffington Post on the table? Possibly. Apparently the site is a big money loser for Verizon and was only profitable the first year after it was acquired by AOL for $315 million. However profits didn't move the needle because it was less than $1 million. While the site was not making money, it was busy expanding launching new verticals, and global editions. The lack of profits is believed to be the real reason Arianna Huffington departed as well as a sticky relationship with AOL CEO Tim Armstrong according to a feature story on Hive

one former editor said:
“Just in case I get hit by a bus today, let me state this for the informal record: In my last year there, we made about $110 million in revenue, give or take, and we weren’t profitable.”
