The Atlantic Continues to Beef Up Its Team Ahead of The Inauguration of President "The Donald"

OK so maybe it isn't because a new President is about to take office, but it doesn't hurt to beef up your politics, culture, science, health and tech coverage at this time because all these things, believe or not will be impacted by a new administration. The Atlantic is taking heed (or not) and is beefing up their coverage of these areas with some new hires. There latest hire is Julia Ioffe who will be covering politics, national security and foreign policy. She covered the 2016 election for Politico magazine and so, yeah we would say she's a catch. Here's the full announcement below:

Julia Ioffe Joins The Atlantic to Cover Politics and Foreign Policy

Recent Hires Include McKay Coppins on Politics, Culture Editor Jane Yong Kim, and Sarah Zhang on Science, Tech, and Health

Washington, D.C. (December 6, 2016)The Atlantic continues to grow its masthead with the hire of U.S. politics and foreign policy reporter Julia Ioffe. Currently a contributing writer for Politico Magazine, Ioffe will cover national security, foreign policy, and politics for The Atlantic magazine and TheAtlantic.com. She will begin with The Atlantic in early 2017.

“Julia Ioffe is an indefatigable reporter, a gifted analyst, and an elegant writer and I’m so happy she’s decided to join The Atlantic,” said editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg. “The addition of Julia to our already growing politics and foreign affairs teams is a cause for celebration. Our readers will benefit greatly from her work."

Ioffe joins The Atlantic at a time of record audience growth. Last month TheAtlantic.com broke its audience record by nearly 1 million unique visitors, bolstered by expanded coverage of Politics & Policy. The magazine also sold a record number of subscriptions coming off the election last month—toppling the previous monthly record by 50 percent—and is the only title among its competitive set to increase newsstand sales this year.

Ioffe covered the 2016 election for Politico Magazine, and was also a contributor at Huffington Post’s Highline and a columnist at Foreign Policy. Prior to that, she was a senior editor at The New Republic, where she wrote about foreign affairs, Russian politics, the Sochi Olympics, and the invasion of Ukraine. Before joining TNR in 2012, Ioffe was a Moscow-based correspondent for Foreign Policy and The New Yorker. She’s been a finalist for the Livingston Award twice: for a 2013 profile of Sen. Rand Paul and 2011 piece on Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. In 2009, Ioffe received a Fulbright to live and work in Russia.

Ioffe joins a growing team. Last week The Atlantic announced the hire of McKay Coppins to the politics team. Jane Yong Kim recently became editor of the Culture section, and Sarah Zhang was hired as a staff writer covering science, tech, and health.
