New York Observer Being Sold to a Kushner Family Trust

The New York Observer is being sold, but it won't be to another media company like American Media Inc. The publication which was purchased by Jared Kushner back in 2006 will be sold to a Kushner family trust. The move is an effort by Jared Kushner to remove himself from his business holdings as he prepares to take a senior advisor role in his father in law Donald Trump's administration.  However moving the Observer into a family trust doesn't necessarily remove the publication out of Kushner's grasp.
By keeping the Observer and other business assets in the family, Kushner is taking a page from his father-in-law's playbook. President-elect Trump has said he will pass his own business interests over to his sons, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., though it is not clear whether he intends to fully divest himself.
