Viacom which is in the middle of some major changes under new CEO Bob Bakish has named a Chief Marketing Officer for its creative content group Viacom Velocity. Dario Spina who recently served as Executive Vice President of Marketing and Branded Entertainment for the Music and Entertainment Group, and who helped launch Viacom Velocity back in 2014 will now lead all U.S. partner marketing and creative efforts across Viacom's global entertainment group. Dario Spina Named Chief Marketing Officer of Viacom Velocity
NEW YORK, March 7, 2017–– Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA) today announced the appointment of Dario Spina as Chief Marketing Officer of Viacom Velocity, Viacom’s award-winning full-service partner marketing and creative content group, effective immediately. Spina will continue to report to Sean Moran, Head of Marketing & Partner Solutions (Ad Sales).
In this expanded role, Spina will be responsible for all U.S.-led partner marketing and creative efforts for the networks within Viacom’s Global Entertainment Group – MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, Spike, Logo, TV Land and CMT – developing insights-driven branded entertainment and creative content for advertising partners. Spina also will manage creative and production responsibilities for the group’s integrated marketing initiatives across linear, digital and social platforms. Additionally, he will launch a new Velocity Culture and Creative Insights team, which will provide creative rationale and direction to support Velocity’s best-in-class solutions and thought leadership. His team also will release an original documentary this spring.

Spina helped launch Velocity in 2014, and under his direction the group has introduced a suite of industry-leading products that prioritize a strategic approach to content creation, implementation and measurement of branded marketing programs. His team also launched Viacom's branded social content network, a platform that creates and executes branded content campaigns across social media, including the casting and directing of social talent. Velocity is recognized by the industry as a premier branded content solution, having garnered more than 100 campaign honors.
Previously, Spina served as Executive Vice President of Marketing and Branded Entertainment for the Music and Entertainment Group, working with brand leadership across MTV, VH1, Logo, MTV2, MTVU, Comedy Central, Spike and TV Land. Prior to that, he was the Senior Vice President of Integrated Marketing at Viacom's Entertainment Group. Spina also was responsible for the consumer and integrated marketing efforts at Spike during the network's launch. He began his career at Viacom in 2000 as Director of Promotions at MTV Interactive. Before joining Viacom, Spina held various positions in advertising at DDB Needham and held marketing and creative roles in the music industry, including at Mercury/Island Def Jam Records.
Spina currently serves on the Board of Directors for Shine Global, a prosocial organization that gives voices to children by telling stories of their resilience to raise awareness, promote action and inspire change. In addition, Spina serves on the Publishing Advisory Board at Pace University. He holds an MA from Seton Hall University and earned his undergraduate degree from Pace University.
