i-D ANNOUNCES RAVI AMARATUNGA AS GLOBAL GROUP DIRECTOR OF FILM AND VIDEO

Monday, 23rd February 2014 (London) - i-D announces today that Ravi Amaratunga has joined the fashion media brand in the newly created role of Global Group Director, Film & Video. He will oversee all video programming and strategy for i-D.

A former editor at UK broadcaster Channel 4, Amaratunga joins i-D from Dazed Group, where he set up the fashion publisher’s video arm, Dazed Vision, working with an array of broadcasters and brands, including executively producing the critically lauded Music Nation series, broadcast on C4.

i-D has redefined and grown its digital offering since VICE Media acquired the brand in December 2012, relaunching its online presence i-D.co in 2013, staffing up a premium production arm which Amaratunga will oversee.

Amaratunga arrives as i-D celebrates its 35th year, with a host of events and unique activity planned both on and off line over the course of the year, also honouring over three decades of unrivalled creativity with a bumper print issue.

He joins in conjunction with i-D aggressively expanding over the past year, opening a number of international offices including Germany, Italy, Australia, Spain and the US, the latter recently announcing an expansion in staff and resources for the New York office.

Local editorial teams continue to feed into international content created at i-D's London HQ under Editor-in-Chief, Holly Shackleton and Amaratunga.

Ravi Amaratunga says: "I'm really thrilled to be joining a truly global brand like i-D at a time of real expansion. The ambition and scale of style culture video programming I'll be overseeing with an incredible team is extremely exciting. I hope to bring my broadcast experience to help craft something really distinctive across several channels that speaks to young consumers, and changes the way mainstream audiences see style culture as a whole."

i-D’s Managing Director, Richard Martin adds: “Ravi brings with him not just a brilliant eye for creating beautiful moving image from the worlds of style, culture and music, but a clear appreciation of i-D's steadfast belief that fashion film and video must be intelligent, original and entertaining.”
