Time Inc's Latest Move to Help It Compete With "Digital Attackers" is to Ditch the "Publisher" Job Title For Its Publications?

Things just keep getting more interesting at Time Inc as it continues in its quest to convince itself and the world that it's no longer magazine publishing company (which it is). CEO Joe Ripp's latest move to drive this message, is to get rid of the "Publisher" job title which will result in some publishers losing their jobs and others being assigned new work. According to Media Ink, this change is expected to start as early as next week.
The company is taking a gamble that by stripping away the old job titles it will make it easier to compete in the digital media world — without eroding the print base, where it still derives most of its revenue.
Meanwhile, digital first media companies like Buzzfeed and Vice have individuals on their "mastheads" with the "Publisher" title. Another head scratcher for Wall Street no doubt!
