TheVerge Founder And Former Bloomerg Media Digital Content Chief Joshua Topolsky's The Outline is Live

TheOutline.com the long awaited website from former Bloomberg digital content chief Joshua Topolsky is live and kicking. When you land on the site you're greeted with the obligatory welcome message form Topolsky. As expected with any new site, Mr. Topolsky's welcome message states that they built the TheOutline because they believe in telling better stories in new ways. That is pretty much the same thing Axios, the forthcoming website from Politico founder Jim Vandehei is promising as well as many other sites that have launched in the past. The look and feel of the site can also be mistaken for a Vox Media website, or even what the original relaunched Bloomberg.com looked like under Mr. Topolsky during his time at that company. There is a lot going on visually and sometimes its easy to forget you're on a news website because it could also be mistaken for the website of a new creative agency. Here is more of Mr. Topolsky's welcome message.

I'm not going to bore you with every tiny detail, but by now it should be rather clear that something is broken in the way the media functions and in what is expected of a media organization. This is not entirely the fault of the news industry, but it's not not the industry's fault. The math of this miscalculation is clear: For far too long the media industrial complex has relied on the crutch of scale and quantity, regurgitative storytelling practices, the strength of other people's technology and ideas, and a skewed view of its own position in the world. And that has been detrimental to the audience and the business alike.
