David Zaslav, the chief executive of the Discovery cable network, asked Kushner how it would be possible in the future to have a national discussion based on facts. Kushner replied that it was the media that was deluded about America, claiming his own computer models told him the morning of the election that Trump would capture more than 300 electoral votes. 
JIM VANDEHEI AND MIKE ALLEN'S AXIOS LAUNCHES TODAY
The motto for Politico co-founder Jim VandeHei’s new venture, Axios, is that “media is broken.” One way he hopes to fix it starts with advertising. The political and business news-focused outlet—which kicks off Monday with a slate of newsletter offerings and will launch in full Jan. 18—is beginning with the premise that banner ads and long-form native advertising don’t work.

TWITTER SET TO REPORT ITS FOURTH QUARTER RESULTS
Just put a date to its fourth-quarter earnings release. The company will announce financial results for the quarter on Thursday, February 9. Following its better-than-expected third quarter , investors may be hoping for some of Q3's positive trends to spill over into the social network's fourth quarter. Further, investors will look for signs that Twitter's turnaround efforts, including a 9% cut to the company's workforce, are beginning to gain traction.

DISNEY LAUNCHING $99 STREAMING BOX
This week at CES, Disney announced a $99 streaming box that can play some Android games.  the Disney Kids TV box, made by peripheral company Snakebyte, can also stream a variety of TV/movie content and play music. It'll come pre-loaded with movies, shows, and games, though Disney did not announce the full lineup. For games, you can buy an optional controller (pricing was not mentioned), while it also works with Bluetooth controllers.

SNAP INC, PARENT COMPANY OF SNAPCHAT UPS ITS OFFICE SPACE GAME TO 300K SQUARE FEET
The company behind popular mobile chat app Snapchat has decided to take a large amount of office space near Santa Monica Airport as it continues to expand rapidly. Snap Inc. has leased about 300,000 square feet at Santa Monica Business Park, according to Westside real estate experts who know about the agreement but aren’t authorized to speak publicly.

AMERICAN MEDIA INC LAUNCHES 'AMI FITNESS GROUP'
American Media, Inc. (AMI) today announced the creation of the AMI Fitness Group, a new network that includes Men's Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, Muscle & Fitness Hers, and Flex brands. Collectively, the Group will deliver an audience of more than 50 million and serve as the premier destination for the growing fitness category. Chris Scardino has been named Executive Vice President and Group Publishing Director with Shawn Perine as Vice President and Editorial Director.

APP BUTTONS ARE A THING FOR PUBLISHERS ON MOBILE
The best advertising provides a service. Imagine reading an article about the best places to travel in 2017 and, lo, a hotel app on the page allows you to book a room on the spot. Ever on the lookout for new revenue streams, publishers are increasingly letting servicey apps put buttons on relevant editorial. Condé Nast Traveler, for example, has been running buttons from Uber and Hotels.com on its mobile sites since last October

THE RECLUSIVE HEAD OF DISNEY'S MARVEL ENTERTAINMENT IS JOINING THE TRUMP TEAM
Marvel Entertainment billionaire Ike Perlmutter is set to become a key aide on veterans affairs in the Trump administration, sources told On the Money. The comic book king, who parlayed his ownership of Marvel into a large independent stake in Disney, is best known for being a recluse. News organizations have almost no images of the 74-year-old executive. Leadership changes coming to Marvel?

APPLE EXECS SEE DIP IN PAY
Apple Inc.’s top executives saw their compensation fall last year while Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook had his biggest payout yet from his record 2011 award. Cook’s five top lieutenants received about $22.8 million each for 2016, according to a proxy statement filed Friday. The pay packages included $2.8 million in salary and cash bonus, and $20 million in equity awards.

Last April, Pamela Wasserstein became New York’s CEO. Wasserstein, who had led strategy at the publication and, before that, run corporate development at Tribeca Enterprises, is the daughter of the late Bruce Wasserstein, who bought New York for $55 million in 2004.

Shari Redstone, the controlling shareholder of both Viacom and CBS, was out and about at CES, partying with the tech nerds. It makes sense, since her company Advancit Capital, invests in tech firms. Several sources say she’s enjoying her newfound fame as the de facto boss lady.
VIDEO STREAMING SUBSCRIPTION REVENUES JUMP
Americans spent 22.6 percent more on subscription video streaming services like Netflix in 2016 compared with the prior year, helping the entire home entertainment business eke out a 1.4 percent annual gain, according to industry statistics out Friday. In all, Americans spent $6.2 billion on video streaming subscriptions in 2016, according to a report from the Digital Entertainment Group.

VIMEO IS READY TO TAKE ON NETFLIX AND HULU
When Barry Diller’s IAC/InterActiveCorp bought comedy website CollegeHumor in 2006, the deal included an asset the billionaire had little use for at the time: Vimeo. The video-sharing site, which predates YouTube, is now the fulcrum of Diller’s plan to join the crowded online-TV market.
