MIC is Launching a Bunch of New Sites And Hiring More The Two Dozen People to Run Them

Verticals? Forget verticals it's all about channels. This seems to be the approach of millennial focused digital media company MIC. The company has launched 9 new channels that live on their own across multiple platforms.  The company is taking the opposite approach that many of its competitors have taken like simply launching new areas of coverage. Though the sites are within the MIC domain, they all carry their own identity and will have their own teams to produce content and develop digital and social media audiences.
Chris Altchek, Mic’s chief executive and co-founder acknowledged that managing nine new brands was a lot for the company to take on. To help, the company is planning to hire roughly 35 employees this year for the new properties while also moving some current Mic staffers into different positions. Mic raised $17 million in 2015.

“We didn’t want to dilute the brand by just having a number of channels on Mic.com,” he said. That could lead to “confusing people. These are not tests, these are long-term permanent channels.”
